August 14 Racing Cancelled
August 14 Racing Cancelled
After yesterday's two-hour postponement on the water, Race Officers allowed sailors to beat the heat with an on-land postponement today. The call for the Finn class was made at 3:00 PM because those boats usually sail longer races, but all other classes were held until four o'clock for the final call. USA sailors could be found on "container row," cramped in their 40-foot shipping container for a taste of rudimentary air-conditioning. They snuggled up to boxes of Clif Bars, Nutri-Grain Bars, Quaker Oatmeal, and all other kinds of goodies sent by sponsors.

The rafters of the container usually serve as a drying rack for wet and smelly clothes, but those get moved outside for a more civil postponement.

Sally and Debbie take a nap in the second comtainer. The flash in the photo is misleading, but Sally and Debbie are out cold in the pitch black. (That's Sally by the air conditioner).

The usual, messy state of the container. (Notice the signed burgee from San Diego Yacht Club!)
