Athens 2004

Team USA took home two medals from the Athens Olympics in 2004.

470In the 470 Men's division, Paul Foerster and Kevin Burnham won the gold by three points in a dramatic final race. They match raced Team GBR's Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield toward the back of the 27-boat pack, confirming their narrow win.

The Athens gold was a first for both Foerster and Burnham, although Foerster had two silver medals to his name and Burnham had one previous silver as well. In this now famous photo, Kevin Burnham does a celebratory flip. We hope to see more winning excitement in 2008 in Qingdao, China!

TornadoIn the Tornado fleet, John Lovell and Charlie Ogletree earned silver medals. They finished in the top two for half of the racing, ending up eleven points behind Austrian gold medalists Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher.

Lovell and Ogletree have kept campaigning, and qualified to represent the USA again in 2008 in Qingdao, China. In this photo they exhibit some light-air boathandling, which will come in handy in Qingdao, known for its weak breezes and strong currents. Good luck to our Tornado team in August!
