Dean Brenner is Chairman of the US Olympic Sailing Program. In this role, Dean has ultimate responsibility for all aspects of Olympic sailing. Dean was originally named to this role in 2005, with a term extending through the 2008 Games. However, US SAILING’s Board of Directors recently appointed Dean to serve a second term as Chairman, through the 2012 Games in London. Dean will also accompany the Olympic Team to China this summer, and serve as Team Leader.
Under Dean’s leadership, US Olympic Sailing has enjoyed significant improvements in private fundraising and corporate support, which has contributed to increased support for US athletes and improved performance on the water for the US Sailing Team.
Dean knows how it feels to compete for a spot on the Olympic Team. He came to the sport late in life, as a twenty-year-old college student. Four years later, after some success locally at his yacht club in his hometown of Watch Hill, RI, Dean launched a campaign for the 2000 Olympic Sailing Team in the Soling Class. Dean and his teammates, including America’s Cup champion Ed Baird, finished second at the 2000 Olympic Trials, narrowly missing a spot on the Olympic Team. Dean is a six-time national champion and was a member of the US Sailing Team from 1998 to 2000.
When not volunteering for the Olympic Program, Dean is the President of The Latimer Group, a public speaking and communication coaching firm with a long list of Fortune 500 clients.
Dean and his wife Emily live in Wallingford, CT, with their two dogs, Ridley and Rowan. Emily is a history teacher at Choate, a private boarding school.
Dean earned an MBA in Finance from The Olin School of Business at Babson College, an MA in Shakespearian Literature from The University of Warwick, England, and his BA in English Literature and Government from Georgetown University.
