>Eve of the US Olympic Trials

At one time American sailors with Olympic aspirations would compete against each other at a standalone regatta held in the U.S. These Trials events would be a winner-takes-all series to determine our representatives to the Olympic Games.

For the 2012 Olympic Games, the US Olympic Sailing Committee revamped the Trials process to better reflect the change in international Olympic class competition. Skandia Sail for Gold, beginning June 6, is the first event in the U.S. Olympic Selection process.

On the eve of the regatta, Dean Brenner, Chairman of the Olympic Sailing Committee, explains the importance of this event in an exclusive pod blog.
