All U.S. sailors welcome to send-off celebration presented by Maclaren
Portsmouth, R.I. (May 30, 2012) – With less than two months until the start of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, England, US Sailing announced a nationwide effort to cheer on the US Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Teams. With the theme “Good Luck USA” the initiative offers ways for fans and sailors to support the 22 athletes as they make their way to Weymouth, the venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing competition.
On July 14, the US Olympic Sailing Committee together with the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound will host “Good Luck USA Send-Off presented by Maclaren”, a celebration featuring the 16 Olympic and six Paralympic sailing athletes who will compete in this summer’s Games. The free party, open to junior sailors from across the country, takes place at Larchmont Yacht Club, in Larchmont, N.Y. Supported by Sperry Top-Sider and Ben & Jerry’s, Good Luck USA Send-Off presented by Maclaren represents an exclusive opportunity for America’s Olympic and Paralympic fans to meet the country’s best dinghy, keelboat and board sailors before they head to London for the Games. The party is free to attend with advance registration and will feature one-of-a-kind souvenirs, meet and greets with athletes and a few fun surprises.
The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are becoming known as the “social Games” with the International Olympic Committee encouraging athletes to share their Games experience with fans and followers through Facebook and Twitter. The US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider – the national team comprised of America’s Olympic and Paralympic Team representatives – will continue to use its Facebook and Twitter (@USSailingTeam) accounts to keep fans updated throughout the sailing competition. Get social with the team as they make their Way to Weymouth and send them a message.
Direct Email to Athletes
In addition to posting direct messages on the Team’s Facebook fan page or tweeting, supporters can send an email directly to the team or individual athletes, at any time, by emailing GoodLuckUSA@ussailing.org.
“Every four years US Sailing’s Olympic Sailing Committee throws a very special send-off party for the Olympic and Paralympic Teams,” said Dean Brenner (Wallingford, Conn.), Chairman, Olympic Sailing Committee and the US Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Team Leader. “We’re excited to partner with Maclaren, Sperry Top-Sider, JSA of Long Island Sound and Larchmont Yacht Club to introduce as many junior sailors as possible to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Team members. I encourage every junior sailor in America to make plans now to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
