We’re in the final steps for both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games… just days away now. And everyone, from our sailors to coaches to staff, is quietly and confidently going about their business. We have an experienced team in 2012, much more so than in 2008 when so many of our team (sailors and staff alike) were at their first Games. Not this time. We’re ready to go.
But just because we’ve been around the block a couple of times now does not mean that there still isn’t a bit of excitement as well. The Games is about representing more than just yourself and your family. You are also representing your country, and that means something. It means something to the precious few who get to compete. But it also means something to the many who have supported those efforts, the “team behind the team.”
The U.S. Olympic Committee created a wonderful video that speaks about that “team behind the team” and the video resonated with me. I encourage you to check it out. If you know anyone who has ever represented the USA, you’ll enjoy this piece. It will remind you that everyone who supports one of our athletes, even in the smallest of ways, should carry a sense of pride as well.
We all contribute to the success of Team USA, and we all should feel proud of the 16 Olympians and 6 Paralympians who will represent the USA and the sport of sailing at the Games this summer.
We hope you all will follow along.
