2011 Pan American Games
Everyone came together for a team dinner last night in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Mexico and the USA have done a great job of making us feel safe and secure during these Games, but it was a nice change to get away for some social time. The food was fantastic and everyone was ready to call it a night after a long sunny day.
Today the sun came out in full force which is proving we all need to hydrate. I used the phrase recently “drinking through a fire hose” and that isn’t far from the truth here. A simple 15 minute walk onshore has you downing a 600ml (20oz) bottle of water by the time you back inside. Now imagine being out on the water for 4-5 hrs. But we have coolers stocked up with reserves everyday with ice, water and other fluids for each of our sailors.

There was a technical meeting followed by a nice opening ceremony presentation at Paradise Village Resort. A very nice turnout that showed the pride of Mexico hosting the Games. Their hospitality is showing in everything that gets done.
After the practice race today, some of our athletes are going to go cheer USA at the first match of Beach Volleyball. It is pleasing to know we can cheer for another sport just off the water!
So tomorrow starts the regatta and after a very impressive 14 USA medal count on day 1 of the Games, our sailors are anxious to hit the water. We have athletes in all 9 classes and the forecast looks promising.
Stay tuned for more from PAG in Puerto Vallarta,
