US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics celebrates Independence Day with a BBQ at the USA compound in Weymouth.

With four days of racing completed and two remaining at the 2011 IFDS World Championships, held in Weymouth, U.K., the venue for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics holds six top-10 spots across the three Paralympic classes. In the 2.4mR, Mark LeBlanc (New Orleans, La.) sits in 6th place, just one point ahead of 2008 Paralympic bronze medalist John Ruf (Pewaukee, Wis.), in 7th. Photo right: John Ruf on day two of racing.

Equally close in the SKUD-18 class are the teams of Jen French and JP Creignou (both St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Scott Whitman (Brick, N.J.) and Julia Dorsett (Boca Raton, Fla.), who are currently in third and fourth, respectively.

USSTAG’s three Sonar teams – 2008 Paralympian Rick Doerr (Clifton, N.J.), Brad Kendell (Clearwater, Fla.) and Hugh Freund (South Freeport, Me.); Paul Callahan (Fla./Newport,R.I.), Tom Brown (Castine, Me.) and Brad Johnson (Pompano Beach, Fla.); and Bert Foster (Minneapolis, Minn.), Mike Hersey (Hyannis, Mass.) and David Burdette (Lutherville, Md.) – are in 7th, 9th and 15th.

This regatta is the final opportunity to qualify the USA for a slot in the Sonar and 2.4mR classes for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Racing continues through Friday, July 8.
