Daily Report: U.S. Olympic Sailing Team – August 11
As the 2012 Olympic Games come to a conclusion, the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team is wrapping up in Weymouth and Portland, home to the Olympic sailing venue. After 16 days of competition, the entire team – athletes, coaches, and staff – is finalizing the details involved with closing down the on-site operation. Daily Report: U.S. Olympic Sailing Team – August 5
Headlining day 7 of the Olympic Sailing Regatta, Star sailors Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih finished the Medal Race in 6th to round out their overall standing to 7th place. Bob Willis and Farrah Hall completed their windsurfing series in 22nd and 20th, respectively. As the series progresses in Weymouth and Portland, U.K. the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team’s standings to date after racing today include: Amanda Clark and Sarah Lihan 8th in the Women’s 470; Erik Storck and Trevor Moore in 15th in the 49er. On one side of the ledger, both 470 teams had very good days, our 49er had a good day and they are still in the hunt, and our Star team had another fairly consistent day, although they are now mathematically eliminated from medal contention. A very busy day of racing in Weymouth and Portland for the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team brought mixed results. The day saw the debut of Women’s 470 team Amanda Clark and Sarah Lihan, who are in 4th overall; the advance to the Star medal race for Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih; and an end of the regatta for Finn sailor Zach Railey. Today we have nearly a full racing schedule in front of us. The Elliotts will be match racing again, races 5 and 6 in the Lasers, Radials and 49ers are coming up, races 3 and 4 both RSX classes, and the 470men have a practice day.
