At the Helm: Sail for Gold Morning Briefing, Day 2

Good morning from Weymouth,

Wind and rain are the forecast for the day… fun, fun, fun! Yesterday’s lighter airs and long AP delays will be a distant memory after today. It’s going to be mid-high teens of wind early, building throughout the day. And looking ahead for the next few days, it looks like more of the same.

It’s time to test those fitness levels, ladies and gentlemen.

Yesterday was the first day of the event, and we had some strong results in several places, notably in the Finn, 470 men and Skud 18. You can read all about yesterday’s action in our daily report. But today is a new day, and a totally different skill set will be tested.

Yesterday was also our first day of officially racing under the brand of our new title sponsor, Sperry Top-Sider. We became the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider on April 24, and this event was circled on the calendar as our official roll-out of the new branding. Everything came together nicely (we even had our friends from Sperry on site yesterday to see it all) and the team looked great.

Sponsorship is a huge part of the success in this game and we all have to find great partners and then work with them to make the partnership a success. We are ecstatic with our new partnership and it has started off with great momentum. Thank you, Sperry Top-Sider!

Today is a new day, indeed. Our sailors who did well in the light air need to show they can do it in the big stuff. And the sailors who had tough days need to show they can come back with a vengeance.

Keep an eye on our social media. We’re tweeting out information in real time (@ussailingteam), and will continue to populate our FB page with fresh content right from the boat park every day.

Thanks for following along… the O Games begin in 52 days and the P Games in 85, and we’ll be ready.

Sail fast,

Dean Brenner
